The University ringing society at St Andrews University is the St Salvators Society of Bell Ringers. The bells are a nice ring of 6 which are owned by the University and hung in the tower of St Salvator’s Chapel, which is the University’s medieval chapel. We ring the bells for Chapel and University events and have ringers who are students, staff as well as non-university locals. We welcome both experienced ringers and beginners – full training is offered to those who would like to learn how to ring a bell.

We meet usually twice a week during term time:

• On Sunday mornings we ring before chapel service for half an hour.
• On Tuesday evenings we practice. This is an important part of being a bellringer; beginners practice handling the bell (swinging 1/4 of a ton of bronze high above your head at the end of a rope needs some practice to get it right!).

After the practice we go to the pub and drink beer. This is also an important part of being a bellringer.

We also ring for University occasions such as Royal visits, Graduation, and for other chapel events such as weddings. For more information or to book wedding bells, contact .
